Surf, sun and offshore....

Ed, Matt and Paul all braved frozen fingers to catch some clean faces, although it probably needed a little more angle to make for an epic day, as it was a little too gusty and offshore at times.  I have to admit that it was too cold to tempt me yesterday, but finally got back on the surfboard this morning to enjoy an hour and a half of great waves in the morning sun and light offshore wind.

Relentless

Three sessions in a row at Spot XYZ....

A great session was had by the crews from north and south of the river on Monday, most of us on 4.7-5.0m² and our large wave boards ~80l.  Yesterday was pure survival with everyone rigging the smallest sail in their quiver and just hanging on, in my case this was my 3.7m² on my 68l and even that was too big most of the time.

And then we were 4, that's how many of us made it out today for another windy session on 4.2-4.5m² and small boards 68-75l.

Sorry for the lack of pictures, but I'm back on the water and have no time to stand on the beach.

Tomorrows another windy day....

Christmas at Spot XYZ.

It's been a wild week for weather at times, Ed and I got a session in at Spot XYZ on Thursday (29th) on our smallest boards, 69l and 68l respectively, but even these felt too big at times.  I regretted not walking back to the car to get my 3.7m² when Ed went for his 4.0m², as the 4.2m² I had up became too big for the conditions.

Missed a very rare opportunity to sail Spot "B" with Ed earlier in the week, he had the place to himself while I was being a good dad.

Back on the water

Given the green light to resume activity this week, so had the first windsurf for 6 weeks.  Conditions were not great, as it was onshore, which was probably a good thing given the size of the swell we have at the moment, sailed up and down the beach in the shallows for around an hour.

Spot XYZ....

Not many made it out today, but crews from both North and South of the river made the best of the conditions.  Neap tides at the moment, so not enough water to let the swell in, but still more fun than the alternative of an onshore session at the beach.

It was tough to not risk my fragile toe today, as the early morning southerly was almost too tempting.  Mark was first on the water as the tide pulled back from the ridge.  I managed to snap a quick shot, in the already poor light, before rain started and the gloom descended.  Hanging around to watch the inevitable carnage in the increasingly gusty conditions was never going to happen in the horizontal rain.  Mat arrived to join Mark as I was about to head home, and from the house I saw him having at least one good run out to the back.

The recovery period

Two weeks down and counting of the six weeks that the toe I broke surfing apparently needs to repair itself.

It's not unusual for me to have an excess of free time that I usually fill with surf related activities, so now that these are out I've had to find something to fill the void.  Hence the blag, which will focus on the activities of a group of mainly ageing flexibly employed, unemployed, fully employed and retired windsurfers/surfers.
